Black-capped Conure – Species Description
The Black-capped Conure (also known as the Rock Conure or Pyrrhura rupicola) is a small, playful parrot native to the forests of South America, particularly in Peru and Bolivia. Known for its sweet temperament and gentle nature, this species is a favorite among bird lovers due to its affectionate personality and moderate noise level compared to other conures.
Black-capped Conures typically live 20 to 30 years with proper care, a balanced diet, and regular social interaction. As adults, they measure around 9 to 10 inches (23–25 cm) in length from head to tail, and weigh approximately 60 to 80 grams.
Their plumage is mostly green with a dusky black “cap” on the head, giving them their name. They also have subtle blue and red highlights on their wings and tail, making them beautifully colorful without being overly flashy.
