Red-lored Amazon (Amazona autumnalis)

⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OUR BABIES ⚠️

Our baby birds are currently still being hand-fed with specialized formula to ensure healthy growth, proper development, and strong socialization.

If you have experience with hand-feeding and feel comfortable continuing the process at home, your baby may go home before being fully weaned. Otherwise, you are more than welcome to reserve or purchase your baby now and allow us to continue caring for it until it is completely ready for its new home.

At XM PETS, the health and well-being of our birds always come first. We take the time necessary to ensure each baby grows strong, healthy, and properly adjusted before going home.

Please note that the price of the bird does not change for remaining under our care during the weaning process.

The Red-lored Amazon, also known as the Red-lored Parrot, is a medium-sized parrot native to Central and South America, particularly found in countries like Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, and parts of Colombia and Ecuador. It is well-known for its vibrant green body, bright red patch on the forehead (hence the name), and touches of blue and yellow on the cheeks and wings

  • Appearance and Size:
This parrot typically measures around 12 to 13 inches (30–34 cm) in length and has a sturdy build. The red forehead, contrasted by its mostly green plumage, makes it easily recognizable among other Amazon parrots.

    Behavior and Personality:
Red-lored Amazons are highly intelligent and social birds. In captivity, they are known for their playful nature and strong bonding with human caretakers. They can be affectionate but may also become territorial or noisy, especially during breeding season. With proper training and socialization, they can become excellent companions.

    Vocal Ability:
These parrots are moderate talkers. While not as prolific as African Greys or Yellow-naped Amazons, Red-lored Amazons can learn a variety of words and sounds. They have a loud, clear voice and can mimic environmental sounds like doorbells and whistles.

    Diet and Care:
In the wild, their diet includes fruits, seeds, nuts, and blossoms. In captivity, a balanced diet of pellets, fresh fruits, and vegetables is essential. They need regular mental stimulation and physical activity to stay healthy and avoid behavioral issues like feather plucking.

    Lifespan:
With proper care, Red-lored Amazons can live for 40 to 60 years or more in captivity, making them a long-term commitment for any pet owner.
